Working in real estate has it's rewards. It is a business that is highly personal and allows you to help people realize their dreams. Is this a bit trite? Perhaps, but it is very true. Now, if you are a newly licensed agent, how do you choose the right company to train you and establish your value for families who are finding a home?
First, does the company have a culture of care? Do they have the respect of the community? Do they have the respect of the members of their firm? Do they have a track record that speaks of a reputation of integrity. This culture of care will translate in the way they treat their clients and the members of their firm. The culture of care also shows in they way they speak about other firms and brokers.
Second, does the company have experienced brokers and trainers? If you are a new real estate agent, it is important that you trust your education to people who know the business. The best opportunity to develop as a good real estate agent is to work with brokers who will share their base of experience.
Third, does the company have the business platforms that allow you to exceed, not just meet, your client's expectations? The ability to tap into technology that provides excellent marketing, excellent client management systems and robust lead generation will be a powerful base for your success. If you can get these directly from your firm, and not have to pay an outside vendor or the parent company, all the better!
Fourth, does the company have a written business plan for new sales associates? You are embarking on a new career that is a business within a business. A plan is imperative. The plan should include education, support and systems. Take the time to understand this plan and how you can make it work for you. Ask questions about the plans.
Fifth, does the company want you to rush into this decision to join them? Do they have a "deal" that they want you to commit to or it goes away? Take your time with this important decision. You should, ideally, select a firm that provides you with a long-term career. It is expensive to make company changes in both time and money. If members of this firm have been with the company for several years it is a good sign that they have a culture that stands the test of time.
